Subscription Preferences
This implementation is a customized version of a FunnelBud feature called Granular Unsubscribe.
An example of how the custom setup could look is detailed below
Granular Unsubscribe:
How it works:
All emails must belong to a subscription category, you choose how many categories and what to call them. If you try to send an email (manually or automatically in a workflow) to someone that isn't subscribed to the category that the email belongs to, they simply won't receive it. The Unsubscribe link in emails will go to a page where people can change their subscription categories.
These are the things you need to be aware of when considering this solution:
You cannot change these subscription categories later or add new categories, therefore you should be sure that your categories are finalized when creating them.
If you ever turn Granular Unsubscribe off, anyone who is unsubscribed from one or more categories will be fully unsubscribed.
You won't have manual control over which subscription categories someone is subscribed to.
You can't create lists of people subscribed to certain categories - this is normally not a problem, you can just build lists as you usually would and send emails to the whole list. If the email belongs to a category that someone in the list is not subscribed to, they simply won't receive the email.
Subscription preferences cannot be displayed on normal forms - contacts will only see these options when attempting to unsubscribe from emails.
Custom Subscription Preferences Page:
How it works:
Custom fields will control which subscription categories someone belongs to, contacts can manage their subscriptions through a custom "Subscription Preferences" landing page. This page will be accessible through a manage your subscription preferences link included in your email template.
These are the things you need to be aware of when considering this solution:
You will have full manual and automatic (using workflows) control over a contact's subscription preferences.
You can add/remove/rename categories at any time
Emails will still contain the normal Unsubscribe links, and contacts will be allowed to fully unsubscribe. The setup will simply include an additional link to "Manage your subscription preferences" in emails and make it more visible than the default Unsubscribe link.
Contacts are able to receive any email regardless of their subscription preferences. You need to make sure that you filter by subscription preferences when creating lists and within workflows, and create workflows to remove people from the relevant workflows when they unsubscribe from the category it belongs to.
Subscription preferences can be displayed on normal FunnelBud forms
Simple Subscription Preferences page
A simple way of implementing a Subscription Preferences solution is to simply lead contacts to a Subscription Preferences landing page with options.
The form consists of a Bit field for each subscription preference, with some special form styling.
With customized Subscription preferences, it is more important than ever to respect the customer's subscription preferences. For that reason, only the subscription lists should be used for sending bulk emails/newsletters.
Implementing a solution like these will require a few special skills, please contact support@funnelbud.com if you are interested in implementing something like this.
Subscription Preferences page with selective Unsubscribe links in your emails
This implementation allows you to send emails with a specific Unsubscribe link, to remove the contact from a single mailing group, which helps to prevent complete unsubscribes.
The contact has the option of Unsubscribing from this mailing group, or managing their subscription preferences.
If they click to Unsubscribe from the mail group, they reach a page with a notice, and a link to the general subscription preferences page.
The Subscription Preferences page allows them to manage their subscriptions to each mailing group, with more information about what each group is about at the bottom.
All of this can be managed from a single Landing Page funnel:
